Product Care & Safety
With proper care and maintenance, Glasswork Pixie pieces will endure for generations. Learn how to keep them looking good as new!
Caring For Stained Glass
Metals and finishes used in stained glass naturally oxidize over time. All of Glasswork Pixie's pieces are waxed in order to slow this process, but it is a natural occurrence that will inevitably occur with all stained glass. To clean, use a soft cloth to gently rub off the oxidized areas, then apply a light coat of car wax all over the piece. Once it has dried to a haze, buff off the wax to restore the original shine. Do not clean with water, as it can negatively affect the metal finishes.
Caring For Fused Glass
Fused glass pieces that do not contain solder or lead seams can be hand-washed in warm water with mild detergent. Be sure to thoroughly dry the glass with a soft cloth after washing to prevent hard water spots from forming.
Caring For Jewelry Chains & Findings
All Glasswork Pixie jewelry pieces are made with chains and findings of either sterling silver or 14kt gold, which may tarnish over time, especially when exposed to things like salty air, chlorine, sulfur, humidity, perspiration, cosmetics, or chemicals. To prevent tarnish, jewelry should be stored in a cool, dry place, and should be removed during activities such as cooking, showering, swimming, applying lotions or perfumes, exercising, etc.
To clean lightly-tarnished jewelry, wash it with warm water and a mild, ammonia-free, phosphate-free dishwashing soap, and then gently pat dry with a clean cloth.
To clean heavily-tarnished jewelry, immerse it in a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar and 2 Tbsp baking soda for 2-3 hours, and then gently pat dry with a clean cloth.
When cleaning jewelry, be sure to thoroughly dry any fused glass attachments after washing to prevent hard water spots from forming.
Hanging Glass
It is strongly recommended to hang pieces with hooks, nails, or screws. Use suction cups for hanging at your own risk, as even with proper cleaning they can loosen and fall.
Stained Glass Safety Warning
Glasswork Pixie stained glass pieces are made with lead. Lead contained in finished products causes very minimal risk and is not harmful unless ingested or inhaled, but customers should wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling finished pieces as a precaution. Children should never handle stained glass in order to minimize risk of lead exposure as well as the dangers associated with breakable glass items. Pregnant women should also take special precaution to clean hands thoroughly after handling stained glass pieces.
Glasswork Pixie pieces are intended as art displays, and are not meant to be handled excessively or to come into contact with food unless explicitly labeled as “Food-Safe” within the product listing.
